I had never thought to compare the two, but the parallels are there along with many differences. What made them different? Is it that Wazzer listened from a place of weakness and wanted an external saviour, while Vorbis came from a place of strength and didn't desire anything of Om that he couldn't get himself? I feel like there's a lot to unpack here.
Vorbis is described as having his own echoes bouncing around and around in his own sealed head, until they came back and he thought he was hearing the voice of Om. What stood out to me was the way they're described Polly thinks of Wazzer as having been beaten and pushed down inside herself until she looked up into the only smile she'd ever known, that of the duchess. But, Wazzer was actually speaking to the duchess and Vorbis wasn't talking to Om - he only heard his own voice. The similarities between Wazzer and Vorbis are striking both spoke to gods with few followers inside their heads and attempted great (not good, in the case of Vorbis') actions based on what they heard.
